Creative Block
There are so many times when I want to blog, or write, or paint… but I have no idea where to start! Sometimes I just stare at a blank canvas trying to find some sort of inspiration, but I just can’t seem to figure out what to paint. Lately I’ve been trying to find what inspires me so that a can channel it when I want to be creative.
Here are a few things that inspire me and how I channel that inspiration into what I do:
- FRIENDS: A lot of the time I get great ideas for writing and blogging from my friends. It could be anything from just hanging out to meaningful conversations that give me great little nuggets of inspiration. The best thing to do is write down your ideas afterwards.
- LOVED ONES: I’d say I get creative inspiration from my family and boyfriend. My sister and I in particular are very close and talk about everything together. I get inspiration from our relationship and the adventures no matter how big or small we have together. I have similar personal adventures with my boyfriend as well. These meaningful moments help fule My creative side.
- GOD: Recently I’ve realised how inspiring God’s word is. There are so many beautiful passages and messages that inspire my art. God’s word has been an inspiration to so many popular works like Narnia and Lord of the Rings. Why not seek His message for our own creative inspiration?
- YOURSELF: Sometimes a little personal reflection is all you need to find inspiration. When I get writers block, sometimes I just have to make some tea and go for a little walk to center myself & collect my thoughts.
So these are a few things that give me inspiration to be creative, but how do I channel it into my work? The best thing that works for me is to keep lots of notes either on my phone or in a notebook. I then go though my notes and make more smaller notes to use in a writing assignment or piece of artwork.
What gives you inspiration? Let me know in the comments below!
I’d say most of my creativity manifests itself in blogging and design work. When designing, I usually try to combine what I like with current trends while getting the job done right. And of course I’ll go to Pinterest if I’m out of ideas!
I think that finding inspiration for blogging is a bit harder but definitely more fun as well. I have a few distinct topics that I always write about, and I’m constantly finding more stories that I can fit into one of them. I keep my ideas in OneNote so I can access them from my phone or computer, and I usually have at least one of them handy! I generally have a running list of about 70 ideas at a time, so even if I don’t have any new post ideas, I’ve always got backups.
